Todd Potter is the Managing Principal at Studio HIP and Principal in charge of the New York Playgrounds Program arts initiatives. As a Scenic Artist by training, Todd is well versed in creating innovative color seal designs for the playgrounds. He has bridged from one profession to another using his extensive skill set, talent to draw and paint, and his great sense of design in a huge format. Under Todd’s orchestration, the students’ color seal art takes on a dramatic impact in the new playground and gives each site a unique presence in the community.
Todd is involved in the daily process of running the business including project scheduling, strategic planning, human resources and financial management.
Prior to joining Studio HIP, Todd was an Associate Set Designer on many Broadway plays and Musicals. “Avenue Q” and “In the Heights” both won the Tony Best Musical with Todd at the helm of the Scenic Design Department as Associate to Anna Louizos. He was also an assistant to The Rockwell Group on the Tony Award winning Set Design for “She Loves Me”.
Todd also designs for Off-Broadway and Regional Theater: Dallas Theater Center, Missouri Repertory Theater (now KC Repertory), the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, Irish Repertory, and Naples Players in Florida. He was one of 2 designers to create the new Russian Tea Room in NYC opening in1999, owned by Warner LeRoy.
He also published a Children’s picture book which he wrote and illustrated, “Jimmy Jack Gets a New Job”. He is currently working on the second book in his copious free time.
