Junior Project Manager | Assistant Designer
Madeline is the Project Manager for the Trust for Public Land’s New York City playgrounds program. This unique partnership between the Trust for Public Land, New York School Construction Authority and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection includes a 5 week participatory design process. As Project Manager, Madeline is responsible for ushering the drawing set from schematic design through the construction documentation phase which includes multiple agency approvals. Madeline is fluent in translating student themed drawings from the participatory design process into dynamic color seal art on the playgrounds. The production of well-coordinated drawing sets involving multi-disciplinary teams is her hallmark. As an integral part of the CAD production team. Madeline is proficient in CAD, InDesign, SketchUp and Photoshop. She has extensive skill and talent in bringing creative ideas to life.
Madeline Pursell has a multidisciplinary background committed to developing spaces to grow the imagination. Prior to joining Studio HIP, Madeline trained in theatrical set design and production management at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Her education focused on the intersection of management and design with an emphasis on building creative environments. While studying at NYU, she interned for the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Studio HIP. She has worked as a theatrical set designer and assisted HIP Principal Todd Potter on productions across the country. She specializes in drafting, scale model making and renderings. She has extensive experience as a production manager for theatre, live music and events. As a theatrical production manager, she specialized in scheduling, conflict management and fostering the creative process.
